Businesses that meet the qualification of this class code will generally employ buyers that purchase in bulk from farmers or growers, as well as crews that will sort, grade, pack, and prepare vegetables once they have been delivered to a central location. Additionally, those who are contracted to perform vacuum tube processing of vegetables are also allowed under this classification. In some cases, employees may engage in activities that are related to vegetable packing as well as fruit packing, and in these instances may be classified to both codes as long as the requirements of the Basic Manual are met. Operations that are similar in nature but that should be classified separately include fruit or vegetable wholesalers, canneries, and fruit packing outfits.
