Class code 9084 is used for employees that work in a bar, lounge, nightclub, tavern, discotheque, or other establishment whose principal sales receipts (greater than 50% of total sales) are derived from the sale of alcoholic beverages such as wine, beer, or liquor. Consumption of products for these locations will take place on the premises and customers will typically provide gratuity for bar or wait services. Job positions that are commonly found within this classification include bartenders, helpers, and servers, as well as musicians and entertainers that are employed by the location. Some food service items may be served, and those that work in the preparation of these items would also be included within the scope of class code 9084.

Exclusions not qualifying for this class code include employees working for a restaurant or fast food location that does not sell alcoholic beverages or whose gross receipts for alcoholic related products are less than 50% of total receipts. Additionally, caterers, brew pubs or restaurants that brew their own beer, cyber cafes, and bars or restaurants operated by a country club or hotel are also excluded and should be classified separately.
