Class Code 3119

Needle Manufacturing

Class code 3119 is used for employees that work in a needle manufacturing business. Those covered under this classification would generally be responsible for taking steel wire, received from others, and forming it into the required needle shape using a power press. Other machines may also be used to reduce the diameter at the points, as well as mill, groove, taper, and make eyes for the needles. Once the product is formed, employees may also be required to heat-treat the material to make it hard, straighten it as needed with hammers or by hand, and remove any burrs by polishing in tumblers.

Others covered under class code 3119 may include manufacturers of pen points or pen nibs. These may be of the old style as well as more modern designs, typically sold to manufacturers of fountain pens.
