Class Code 3220 Rates & Quotes

Can Manufacturing

Class code 3220 is used for employees that work in a can manufacturing facility, producing light gauge metal cans of various sizes. To be considered light gauge metal, it must have a gauge that is greater than 11. While the manufacturing process may vary slightly from location to location, it will always begin with large coils of metal (received from others) being cut into sheets that will maximize the number of cans to be made. After this, the sheets may be sprayed with coating to protect the can’s interior and then printed with any required information. Cutting to size is done next, and then the metal is placed into a body former that will shape the metal piece into a cylinder or can shape. Finally, the can will be sealed into place along the sides using some sort of cement, solder, or welding process. The cans will then be packaged, along with appropriately sized lids and bottoms, and shipped to customers.

Cans that are manufactured using a heavier gauge (smaller than 11), are excluded and should be assigned to a metal products manufacturing code based on the given gauge.
