Class code 3638 is used for employees that work within a facility that manufactures ball or roller bearings. These products will vary in style and may be designed for use in an assortment of rotating equipment, parts, and devices. The process of producing these products generally will begin with steel rods, received from others, that are heated in a furnace. Once hot, the rods will be cut into short cylinders using a heading machine. These smaller cylinders will then be shaped, cooled, ground, heat-treated, quenched in an oil bath, and then tested for strength using a hydraulic ram. Once the bearings have been finished, they will be packaged individually and shipped or sent on to be assembled into roller bearings.

Forged rings, which are also included within this classification, will be made in a similar process. Near the end, however, these products will be polished carefully to form an inner and outer ring with precision ground grooves for the balls to move on. Once these are assembled and have passed inspections, they will be packaged for shipping as well.
