Class code 4149 is used for employees that work in a facility that manufactures optical goods and ground lenses, not otherwise classified. This classification would include any employee who is involved in the process of assembling lenses into frames for eyeglasses, opera glasses, industrial goggles, or field glasses. Materials used in this manufacturing process are generally received from others and include such things as sheet plastic, glass or plastic blanks, steel, silver and gold wire rod or tube, emery, polishing rouge, and metal. In addition to receiving these products, other job duties may include heating blanks, molding, forming, and annealing, grinding using machinery, polishing, trimming, beveling, buffing, washing, inspecting, mounting, or shipping to customers.

Exclusions that are similar in nature but require a separate classification would be glassware manufacturing, optical stores (both retail and wholesale), physicians (including optometrists and ophthalmologists), and instrument manufacturing operations.
