Class Code 4352 Rates & Quotes

Engraving

Class code 4352 is used for employees that specialize in engraving work, specifically those who prepare metal engraving plates and who make impressions on paper stock. Examples of products that may be engraved under this classification include cards, envelopes, letterheads, and announcements. Employees typically will begin the engraving operation by cutting the required lettering and/or patterns into a strip of steel or copper that has been treated with an acid resistant coating solution. Next, the strip is exposed to acids which will dissolve any uncoated portions, leaving the strip with the etched portion only. The etching is then blocked and placed into a press which treats the ink to raise it from the surface of the paper.

The decorating of china, ceramic, and glass may also be included within class code 4352, as long as it is done by hand. This may include products such as night lights, dishes, Christmas balls, or ornaments. The manufacturing of Christmas ornaments made from pasta (by hand) is also allowed. Some similar areas of work that have their own separate class codes and are excluded from this classification include platemaking and photoengraving work.
