Phonograph Record Manufacturing

Class code 4431 is used for employees that work within a facility that manufacturers and assembles magnetic and optical recording media. This would include both audio and visual products, like cassettes, CD’s, videotapes, DVDs, etc. Employees responsible for cassette and videotape production would likely use a process of polymerization in a clean-room environment. On the other hand, those working to produce CD’s and DVD’s would be using a vacuum evaporation process, along with an injection mold, to create finished goods out of polycarbonate material. Common equipment and materials that are used within this classification include computers, heaters, rollers, presses, cutting machines, die-casting cylinders, polymer, and ferromagnetic materials.

This class code also covers employees that work in the business of manufacturing phonograph records. Exclusions to class code 4431 include any employee whose primary business is engaging in the duplication and replication of prerecorded media, such as motion pictures, videotapes, computer disks, CD’s, or cassette tapes.
