Class code 5183 is used for employees that do pipe fitting work, such as steam, gas, hot water, or other. This would include house connections, as well as shop. Currently, there is no limit to the size of piping, and work may be done to repair, install, and remove piping and any accessories, fixtures, or appliances that are related. Also included within this class code would be the installation, repair, and removal of equipment used in directing gas or water supplies to a destination. Installation of residential pump or boilers, beer drawing equipment, steam or hot water furnaces, non-electric thermostats, and domestic water softeners are also included. Finally, cleaning done with portable equipment of building sewer connections and beer coils are also accepted within this class code.

Individuals who primarily work as an automatic sprinkler installer would be excluded, as well as those that perform pipe fitting work due to installation of an air conditioning or refrigeration unit. Any work that is done with materials containing asbestos is also excluded.
