Employees working under this class code may do a variety of jobs related to wall tile, ceiling tile, or floor tile, such as preparing the surface, brass stripping work, intricate pattern and design work, cleaning, grouting, buffing, and polishing. Work done under this classification would typically be indoors, but would also include outdoor work that is considered artistic, decorative, or ornamental in nature. Finally, the installation of sinks, counters, and other similar products made from cultured marble, as well as the installation of bathtub and shower liners, is also included within the scope of class code 5348.
Exclusions to this class code would include fireproof tile construction and installation, those who install carpet or laminate flooring, tile work done in connection with construction, any tile work that is considered structural or ground supported, the installation of countertops made from materials other than those listed above, and any plumbing operations performed in connection with installations. When classifying workers to this class code, it is also important to follow the extra-territorial classification guidelines for each worker to ensure that they are properly classified.
