Class code 6229 is used for employees that work in the construction of irrigation or drainage systems, including drivers. This classification is all-inclusive and will cover workers performing a variety of work. Examples of jobs that are commonly performed include, but are not limited to, the digging of main irrigation canals, the digging of laterals, and the installation of irrigation equipment and piping. The scope of class code 6229 will cover both commercial and agricultural irrigation construction, open canal or below ground systems, as well as fixed, moveable, wheel or impulse systems. In addition, specialty contractors who install septic tanks are also included in this classification.

Exclusions to this class code that are similar in nature but that should be separately classified include those who perform underground lawn sprinkler installations and anyone who engages in the operation of an irrigation system. When classifying workers to this class code, it is also important to follow the extra-territorial classification guidelines for each worker to ensure that they are properly classified.
