Oil or Gas Pipeline Construction

Class code 6233 is used for employees that work in cross-country construction of gas or oil pipelines, including drivers. This classification is all-inclusive and will cover workers performing a variety of work. Examples of jobs that are commonly performed include, but are not limited to, clearing new right-of-ways for pipeline construction, taking up or removing old oil or gas pipelines, laying of new pipelines, and performing duties related to testing, maintenance, or repair of pipelines. Additionally, trench pipe wrapping and pipe manufacturing at the construction site are also included within the scope of this class code.

Exclusions to class code 6233 would be anyone who performs pile driving, dredging, or tunneling operations. These workers should be separately classified. When classifying workers to this class code, it is also important to follow the extra-territorial classification guidelines for each worker to ensure that they are properly classified.
