Class code 6236 is used for employees that perform installation or recovery of casing work in connection with gas or oil pipelines, including drivers. Examples of jobs that are commonly performed by a casing crew listed in this classification include, but are not limited to, stabbing, making up, and lowering casing into the hole, welding joints, incidental cementing of the casing string into place, the removing of a casing from the hole, uncoupling of casing sections, and plugging the well with cement. Examples of commonly used equipment of those in this class code are hydraulic jacks, pulling units, spinning ropes or chains, break-out tongs, mechanical rippers, sucker rods, and demolitions.

While oil well cementing that is done incidentally as part of installation or recovery of casing procedures is included within class code 6236, companies that exclusively perform oil well cementing services should be excluded and separately classified. When classifying workers to this class code, it is also important to follow the extra-territorial classification guidelines for each worker to ensure that they are properly classified.
