Class code 8044 is used for employees that work in a retail or wholesale furniture store, including drivers. Stores of this type will generally sell furniture products for the home, office, or lawn areas including sofas, tables, chairs, beds, chests, bookcases, desks, pianos, hot tubs, spas, etc. These may be sold as individual pieces or in sets. In addition, stores in this class code may sell other coordinating merchandise on a small scale, such as carpets and linoleum, bedding and window coverings, lamps and lighting fixtures, mirrors and pictures, as well as kitchen cabinets and small household appliances. The scope of class code 8044 includes employees working within the store location as well as drivers and helpers who may make deliveries, setup merchandise, install home furnishings (such as draperies), or make minor furniture repairs at the customer’s location. Finally, this classification will also include workers that offer interior decor consulting services, so long as they are employees of a store that meets the qualifications of class code 8044.

Operations that engage in the selling of merchandise that is not furniture would be excluded, as well as furniture showroom locations that sell only from samples and do not carry sales inventory. Employees who work for a business that primarily sells carpeting, linoleum, or other non-ceramic flooring, as well as those who install wall-to-wall flooring are also excluded and should be separately classified.
