Class code 8602 is used for employees that work for an operation that surveys land and includes surveyors, timber cruisers, oil or gas geologists, scouts, and drivers. Survey work performed may be done on land that is developed or undeveloped and on roadways as long as the site is above ground. Geologists scouting for oil or gas fields, and lease buyers acting as scouts within this same industry will typically do work such as reviewing court records, interviewing lease holders, securing data, obtaining samples at drilling locations, visiting the drilling site, attending meetings of legal importance, and keeping the company informed of events within the given territory or operation. In addition, timber buyers and cruisers that exclusively spot and mark infected trees for treatment or destruction are also classified under 8602. Exclusions to this class code would be logging operations, oil or gas pipeline operations, and oil or gas well drilling.
