Class code 8742 is used for employees that work as outside salespeople or collectors for a variety of businesses, not classified within the scope of another code. To be considered an “outside” employee, work must be done away from the employer’s location. Examples of specific operations that are included are fund raising campaign managers or directors who travel, advertising or circulation solicitors employed by a magazine or newspaper publisher, reporters and photographers employed by newspapers who work in the field, process servers, cotton classifiers who exclusively test samples away from the employer’s premises, escort employees who accompany their clients on dates or outings, and scouts who recruit players for professional sports teams.

Similar operations not assigned to class code 8742 that should be separately classified would include automobile salespeople and outside welfare workers employed by political bodies. In addition, any person whose job duties fall within the scope of another classification due to their company’s specific business should also be excluded.
