Class code 8831 is used for employees that work within a veterinary hospital, including drivers. In order to qualify for this classification, employees should work for a practice that cares for animals, be in a position where exposure to animals is possible or likely, and not qualify as a clerical employee that should be rated under code 8810. This would include general practice veterinary hospitals, boarding kennels, pet grooming or training establishments, and mobile pet grooming services. In addition, animal control officers who do not carry a gun and employees of poultry sexing businesses are also included.

Exclusions to this class code that are similar in nature include employees who engage in “pet sitting” duties, caring for a customer’s pets in the customer’s home, pet shop or pet store employees, and anyone who trains horses or other animals for amusement purposes.
