Class code 8869 is used for employees that work in a child care center, including salespeople, clerical workers, and drivers. For the scope of this classification, a “child care center” is an operation that cares for children for various periods of time and includes any location that serves preschool through school aged children. Some will operate transportation services, while others will require the children to be dropped off and picked up. Examples include traditional daycare facilities, employer run child care services (not otherwise classified), child care centers operated by the YMCA or similar, religious organizational centers open to the public, specialty camps that meet the class code qualifications, and subsidized child care programs like Head Start. Employees in this classification may engage in a variety of duties, from preparing meals, caring or teaching children, cleaning, administrative tasks, etc. Job positions that are commonly found in class code 8869 include teachers and teachers’ aides, administrators or directors, salespersons, clerical employees, drivers, cooks, and maintenance personnel. Equipment that may be used are things such as chalkboards, sleeping mats, chairs and tables, toys, books, media materials, playground structures, art supplies, etc.

Exclusions to this class code that are similar in nature would be child care medical providers, traditional schools that provide before and/or after school care programs, orphanages, organizations like Cub Scouts, Brownies, Boy & Girl Scouts, and any camp that provides overnight accommodations.
